The Difference Between Soluble and Insoluble Fiber

Dietary fiber promotes health and well being, and everyone should be getting a ratio of 75:25 percent insoluble:soluble fiber in order to help prevent colon cancer and other problems. Soluble fiber is found in fruits like apples and oranges, as well as nuts, seeds and oat bran, and it helps bind with fatty acids and lower cholesterol. Getting enough fiber can optimize the pH level in your bowel, so that these conditions have a lower chance of developing and harming you.

Eating a high-fiber diet may cause some bowel issues at first, but that's just your body cleaning out all the bulk in your intestines that may not have been passed with a lower-fiber diet.
