It can help you lose several pounds in under a week, but is very restrictive and shouldn't be used over a long period of time, as it won't provide you with all the vitamins and nutrients you require for extended health.

There are many different versions of the cabbage soup diet, but they all come to the same conclusion: severely limit your caloric intake for several days and you will quickly shed some pounds.

The cabbage soup diet works because it tricks your brain into thinking that you're not restricting your food intake, but keeps you full so that you actually eat less. Since the plan is so filled with "unlimited" choices of healthy and low-calorie foods, you don't feel like you're being deprived. However, as you're recommended to eat at least two bowls of cabbage soup a day, and always at least 20 minutes before meals, you'll find that you really aren't hungry when it comes time to eat a full meal.

However, one side effect any person considering the cabbage soup diet needs to be aware of is gas. Besides cabbage, the diet is filled with numerous gas-producing fruits and vegetables that can wreak havoc on your digestive system. You may find that odorous gas and increased bowel movements are caused by spending an entire week on the cabbage soup diet.
